Rips are the number one hazard on Australian beaches. Always swim between the flags

Rip currents are strong currents of water flowing away from shore through the surf zone. Avalon Beach has two permanent rips at the north and south end of the beach but they can form quickly anywhere along the beach. Always swim between the flags.
