Bronze Medallion
The SLSA Bronze Medallion and Certificate II Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) provides members with skills and knowledge related to workplace safety, radio operations, surf awareness, aquatic rescue operations, resuscitation, emergency care, communication, teamwork, spinal management and patrol operations. Over an 8 week course, usually starting in October and February, you will be provided with the skills and knowledge to be able to participate in Life Saving operations, join a patrol team at Avalon Beach and gain a nationally recognised qualification.
Course Structure & Duration | Approximately 8 weeks with 2 weekly sessions typically held each Sunday 11.00am – 1.00pm (normally at Avalon Beach) and either Tuesday or Wednesday evening 7.00pm – 9.00pm (at Avalon Beach SLSC). Prerequisite Swim | Participants must swim 400m (16 laps of Avalon Beach pool) in nine (9) minutes or less. This swim will be conducted prior to enrolment in the course. Surf Life Saving Australia regulations require all members in training for the Bronze Medallion to wear a Hi Viz fluoro vest when training in the ocean. This vest can be fluoro yellow, green, pink or red.
