About Us

Avalon Beach Surf Life Saving Club is on
Sydney’s Northern Beaches, about a 45 minute drive from the Central Business
District of Sydney.  We are part of
Australia’s volunteer Surf Life Saving service and are affiliated with Surf
Life Saving Australia at the national level, Surf Life Saving New South Wales
at the State level and Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches at a Branch
level.

Our primary role is to ensure the safety of
beach goers on weekends and public holidays, by placing red and yellow flags at
the safest place to swim on our beach and providing qualified Surf Lifesavers
to patrol the beach. We aim to prevent the need for rescuing swimmers in
difficulty, but even with preventative measures in place, we rescue more than
50 people every summer.

We are a family based Club and maintain
strong links across the local community. 
Our youth development programs provide education, training, fitness and
entertainment to our young members.  We aim
to enjoy ourselves while undertaking a responsible community service by having
Sunday morning surf races, Club training and social events throughout the year.  We host community based events including the
Lion Island Challenge, Carols by the Sea, the Avalon Beach Surf Swim and the
Mackerel Challenge.  We are also strong
competitors at Nippers, Open and Masters competitions at Branch, State and
National Surf Life Saving Championships.

We have around 1100 members including more
than 225 Patrolling members, 460 Nippers and more than 360 General and Associate
